This is kind of old news, but I’m surprised that more people in our industry aren’t still talking about it. According to an article in Bloomberg Businessweek, Mac Pro sales have been flagging of late, and everyone knows that Apple’s not afraid to kill a product that’s not turning a profit. Remember the Lisa? The Cube? Indeed, Mac Pro users are starting to panic, scrambling to find upgrades before Cupertino shoots an arrow through this particular apple.
Apparently, the speed of Thunderbolt will take care of any I/O issues for pros (video, audio, etc), RAID storage devices, and multiple displays. Sounds like the future for pros will be full of iMacs, which is OK, provided they have enough horsepower to get the job done. Let’s just hope that Apple doesn’t leave them in the dust 10 years from now in favor of laptops and tablets.
Just remember, Apple, there are a whole bunch of pros out there who are fiercely loyal to your products. Please don’t make us go to the Dark Side.
